Why: In 1972 the war between the United States and Vietnam ended, and the two countries have been trying to pick up the pieces ever since. But, before we can mend the deep wounds of war- before the new generations can understand what happened then and what happens next-- both countries must continue to work together to establish a sense of international community. Artists can play a valuable role in this process by providing a variety of expressive forms to enhance our dialogue and enrich our experiences.
As a soldier in Vietnam in 1970, Kimo was so impacted by the Vietnamese cultural that it changed his life forever. Since 1990 he has been expressing that impact through his music writing symphonies, string quartets and jazz works based on the experiences on his tour of duty. His ultimate vision thinking back to his time in Vietnam was to replace his M16 with his music and to expose as many other Americans as he can to the rich traditions and artistic paradigms of a culture we once called our enemy.
This tour is the culmination of all his artistic energy over the last 18 years……
